Who is Tom? As a young boy in the 1960's, Tom Bentley first acquired his love for boat racing at Marine Stadium in Long Beach, CA. Little did he know that this future stepfather would share his passion for racing. For those of you who do not know Tom personally, his mother Lyn Todd and stepfather, the late Bill Todd of "Billy the Kid" fame. Todd held the Top Fuel Hydro record at 4.95 ET at 226.70 MPH in 1986, the last year of the open cockpit top fuel hydro.
In the late 1970's and early 1980's, Tom learned all of the basics of boat racing while part of the "Billy the Kid" crew. The team enjoyed great success in the Blown Gas Hydro, Blown Alcohol Hydro and Top Fuel Hydro classes. Tom was temporarily absent from the sport during the late 80's, but recognized the need for a good product to be reintroduced with changes for today's racing. His love of boat racing never died, and he hopes to contribute to the successful growth that is anticipated during the coming years.
